Let’s see you’re a Muslim thinking of immigrating and you think dogs are “unclean” so you choose a Scotland, a liberal democracy that is known for its beautiful countryside, men that wear skirts to celebrate special events and its love of dogs. Muslims do realize that humans carry somewhere between 500 and 100,000 species of bacteria around. That the average human has hundreds of millions of e.coli alone living in their intestines. Without the organisms that live in the human digestive tract you couldn’t do neat stuff like break down complex carbohydrates or vitamins so they can be used by the body to function properly. Science fiction has been described as looking at the future and asking what if. WALL-E also adds the elements of fantasy and slap-stick humor. In other words what has these people upset is someone’s imagination. Some creativity presented for those that care to cough up seven dollars to be entertained. So the right-wing Thought Police have rolled out some of their best thinkers to warn us against thinking certain thoughts, against using our imaginations or making our own decisions. Because everyone knows that thoughts are exactly the same as concrete reality. WALL-E isn’t just a cartoon according to CNN’s Glenn Beck among others, WALL has special powers. If you or your kids watch him he’ll take control of your mind and cause you to think “Malthusian” and “Fascistic” thoughts. That is how powerful animated characters can be, consider yourself warned. Interesting that the Scottish Muslim community and America’s right-wing Christians think that images have such extraordinary power over the human mind. Maybe we can fight the next war just using doodles on paper.
