st. louis 1904, sandy hook conspiracy theories cheaper by the dozen, dream a little dream

Panoramic view of the wholesale and office district of St. Louis.  c1904. created by Charles Juehne. While it is not to scale it is otherwise a fairly accurate view of “Looking south from Lucas Ave. and Seventh Street” in 1904.

I was a little divided on posting this. Do these conspiracy theorists deserve any more attention than they already get. Yet for years many moderate sensible Americans ignored this kind of thing. Much of the thinking was that no one will pay attention to them. They’ll just go away on their own. They don’t. Professor Claims Newtown Shooting Was Likely Staged

A professor from a Florida university speculates that the Newtown massacre may have been “constructed.”

In a series of blog posts since last month’s shooting that left 28, including the gunman, dead in Connecticut, James Tracy lays out his case that there have been too many conflicting reports and ambiguity surrounding the massacre.

“…what has been revealed and captured in press reports suggests how from missing suspects and evidence to unrevealed corpses much is still unknown and mainstream news outlets have been at least complicit in what could conceivably be described as the Sandy Hook massacre’s constructed reality,” the associate professor of Media Studies at Florida Atlantic University wrote at memoryholeblog.com last week. “In this way unseen and largely unaccountable authorities set the agenda of the reportage through a titillating storyline reliant on an unsettling symbolic landscape to further develop and cultivate audience credulity.”

“Regardless of where one stands on the Second Amendment and gun control, it is not unreasonable to suggest the Obama administration complicity or direct oversight of an incident that has in very short order sparked a national debate on the very topic-and not coincidentally remains a key piece of Obama’s political platform.”

FAU has distanced itself from Tracy’s comments.

If you’re clever and look hard enough you can always find a little crack in the official record of events and fill those cracks with a lot of conjecture. They always contain a common logical fallcy: just because someone else does not know what color the house is painted on the other side of the hill, that does just mean that someone who swears it is purple is correct by default. Tracy’s major thrust is that as events unfolded – first there were reports of the possibility of two perpetrators for instance. Well that means the authorities purposely mislead people. To say that “While it sounds like an outrageous claim, one is left to inquire whether the Sandy Hook shooting ever took place – at least in the way law enforcement authorities and the nation’s news media have described.” This is similar to the Birther claims about President Obama’s birth certificate. In order for such vast cover-ups to take place would require the active participation of hundreds, if not thousands of people. Sandy Hook was and still is being investigated by the Department of Justice and the FBI. The parents and family of the victims would have to cooperate with such a huge scheme. Like many such theorists Tracy has not simply the belief that he possesses some special truth, but reaches that maniacal level of shrill paranoid persecution by the powers that be, “To declare that the shooting ‘never took place’ is cause for intense opprobrium in most polite circles where, in familiar Orwellian fashion, the media-induced trance and dehistoricized will to believe maintain their hold. Similarly, an individual who contends that Timothy McVeigh was an accessory in a much larger operation at Oklahoma City, Osama bin Laden was not responsible for the events of 9/11, or the World Trade Center Towers were brought down by controlled demolition is vigorously condemned for thought crimes against the state.”

One of those strange kinds of condemnation for “thought crimes”. He is a professor on the public payroll. Still has a job. Still has a pension to look forward to. No one has thrown him on the rack to be tortured. he has the right to say what he likes. He just seems to have a problem with people having principled, fact based disagreements with with him.

I went over to his blog memoryholeblog.com and found this in the archives from July 2012,

The Affordable Care Act’s Regime of Truth, Surveillance and Control

An overview of the US Affordable Care Act’s key terminology suggests the continued affirmation of allopathic procedures alongside accelerated bureaucratic surveillance, centralization and control. While reinforcing the faith in allopathy, the preponderance of such terms points to processes seeking to reaffirm in the existing human subject a willingness to adapt to new deeds, activities, behaviors, and proficiencies to lay the groundwork for the development of an altogether new form of social control.

[  ]…On the whole, liberal pundits and their followers recognize the ACA as a landmark gesture of beneficence toward the country’s less fortunate, while conservatives generally see the legislation as another major step down the road to serfdom.

Certainly the new law will at once strengthen, broaden, and centralize the federal government’s surveillance powers and decision-making apparatus over the medical activities and relationships of providers and patients alike, with an intensified hierarchical bureaucracy given increased decision-making power over the appropriateness of medical procedures and life itself.

The wording and tone remind me of a lot of the right-wing libertarian screeds over at The Mises Institute and far Right libertarian sites. One of the keo issues that concerns Tracy in that passage is Allopathic medicine:

Allopathic medicine is an expression commonly used by homeopaths and proponents of other forms of alternative medicine to refer to mainstream medical use of pharmacologically active agents or physical interventions to treat or suppress symptoms or pathophysiologic processes of diseases or conditions…

Tracy is rejecting mainstream medicine pretty much in its entirety. Rejecting something as basic as allopathic medicine includes rejecting germ theory. That sets medicine back to at least the 18th century. As with the Sandy Hook conspiracy the anti-allopathic front uses anecdotal stories about a doctor being wrong now and than to cast the net of the complete condemnation of the AMA and mainstream medicine. Cracks, they’re everywhere.

Tracy is not the only one out there spreading conspiracy theories about Newtown. The Iranian government said they thought it was a plot by an Israeli death squad to punish President Obama for not being loyal enough to Israel. Sandy Hook has also been connected to the LIBOR banking scandal. Tracy might even be a little late to the game. Other have suggested that Sandy Hook was staged to dupe the U.S. into signing an international weapons treaty. Some have suggested it was all a plot by the Freemasons.

Youngest ‘Schindler’s List’ Survivor Dies . “Leon Leyson, who was the youngest of 1,100 Jews saved from the Nazis by Oskar Schindler, has died in Southern California at 83.” This may be part of a plot by ABC to make me feel sad.

GOP Rep Promotes Shutting Down The Government: It’s A ‘Good Thing’

Republican Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (TN) insisted that shutting down the government should be “on the table” as Congress and the Obama administration deal with passing a continuing resolution, raising the debt ceiling, and addressing the sequestration cuts.

When the world’s greatest husband, newt Gingrich (R-GA) was Speaker his shut-down cost between $700 and $800 million. Even when the government stops paying it’s bills the interest keep accruing. Some other wonderful things to look forward to if conservatives throw the hostage ( the nation) in the basement for a while to teach it a lesson.
