some men never grow up, living in the past, stepford wives
August 11, 2008 at 2:37 pm | In culture, news, photoshop, sociology | Leave a CommentNot to be a I told ya so, but Johnny McCain really should read some of the wonderful newspapers available on the internet tube thingy, Getting Georgia’s War On
McCain’s call to NATO-ize the war is not only frightening, it’s also delusional: both NATO and US forces are already stretched beyond the breaking point, even by Joint Chief of Staff chairman Michael Millen’s own recent assessment.
But McCain’s brain remains undeterred by reality, a fact that became painfully clear today in Des Moines when he also demanded, “The US should immediately convene an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to call on Russia to reverse course.”
The problem with McCain’s bold demand about going to the UN is that Russia already tried doing exactly what McCain called for–and got rejected by McCain’s neocon pals in the Bush Administration. Early this morning, Russia convened an emergency session of the UN Security Council, calling on both sides to immediately cease hostilities, return to the negotiating table and renounce the use of force–but the last part about renouncing the use of force is exactly what Georgia’s president Mikhail Saakashvili refuses to do.
We still have today’s news cycle to go. Maybe the press will go another 24 hours without remembering that one of McDaddy’s advisers was also a lobbyist for one of Putin’s best buddies. Another 24 hours of McCain sounding like some insecure middle school twit trying way too hard to sound tough.

Time Warp Wives: Meet the women who really do live in the past
Joanne Massey, 35, lives in a recreation of a 1950s home in Stafford with her husband Kevin, 42, who works as a graphics application designer. Joanne is a housewife. She says:
I love nothing better than fastening my pinny round my waist and baking a cake for Kevin in my 1950s kitchen.
I put on some lovely Frank Sinatra music and am completely lost in my own little fantasy world. In our marriage, I am very much a lady and Kevin is the breadwinner and my protector.
This is from the on-line edition of a U.K. newspaper. Ai first i thought it might be a satire, but the women seem very sincere about living as much of their lives as they can in their favorite decade. The first one admits she lives in a fantasy world. Its easy to spoof these people. If you want to go to the link and snark them within an inch of their lives on your blog have at it. The breadwinner remark struck me as a little fantastic for most industrialized western countries. Most married couples have to work in order to have the same purchasing power as their grandparents. I think it was the woman who lives in the Forties who said she resented the cultural pressure to work and compete with men. There probably is some, but its is mostly economic reality that forces both spouses to work. The average workplace is kind of fluid, you don’t have to compete; in fact many of your coworkers would appreciate it if you didn’t. All things considered Its great for people to have a much personal freedom as possible. If some of them chose to live in another time with a head full of very over romanticized ideas about what those times were like, to paraphrase Thomas Jefferson it doesn’ break my leg. if you like retro the photos that go with he article are great.
