1 and half minutes per five hours of news, misty reflections, your mac or your face
March 18, 2008 at 12:23 pm | In media, photography, photoshop, tech culture | Leave a CommentI happen to like TV in general. I’m not always glued to to a new new documentary on PBS. There is usually a sit-com or an interesting drama like Madmen to watch. Though, and I blame Mrs. J, my third grade teacher who would go on occasionally about good citizenship. Which meant being informed. A goal made difficult if you rely on TV news, If You Watch FIVE HOURS of Cable News, Expect to Find ONE MINUTE of Coverage Devoted to Either Science or the Environment
* 35 minutes about campaigns and elections
* 36 minutes about the debate over U.S. foreign policy
* 26 minutes or more of crime
* 12 minutes of accidents and disasters
* 10 minutes of celebrity and entertainmentOn the other hand, one would have seen:
* 1 minute and 25 seconds about the environment
* 1 minute and 22 seconds about education
* 1 minute about science and technology
* 3 minutes and 34 seconds about the economy
* 3 minutes and 46 seconds about health and health care
One has to watch John Stewart once in a while to appreciate that the 35 minutes of election coverage might be more a waste of time. It all merges together into a swirl of multi-colored charts and lame punditry. I’m thinking the major networks could easily swap twenty minutes every five hours from election to science, education and the environment. Of course I have a better chance of seeing Monk solve a murder on the moon.

Speaking of PBS. Charlie Rose had a tough choice to make, save his face or his Macbook Air. The pictures at the link tell the tale. Mac notebooks might be what is driving some traditional PC users their way.
