But slowly and steadily, women bloggers have been increasing in number, reflecting a national trend in female social networking that has ignited the interest of politicians, companies and the media who see chances to harness the buying and voting power of this well-educated and affluent demographic for profits and proselytizing.
One survey in March, by a blog advertising firm called Blogads, reported that the average consumer of such content is a 29-year-old female with an annual income of $70,000 who taps into five blogs a day and spends four hours a week on them.
[ ]….One of the hottest categories is the “mommy blog” — and the networks that list them, providing one-stop shopping for women looking for information or a shoulder to cry on or just to share laughs.
Other networks include Ladies Who Launch, which targets “mompreneurs,” and the newly unveiled Mom Blog Network, which boasts of “a proprietary system of algorithms to reveal what topics, blogs and users are the ‘hottest.’ “
more proof that we are the social animals. i’ve read a couple mommy blogs here at WP and i could see the appeal for the social aspect and the humor. i’ve noticed a few “daddy” blogs, which are a lot like the guy who keeps 28 pictures of his kids in his wallet except in HTML. the dads and moms vent a little about the tribulations of raising kids, but they’re also psyched about their kids. one aspect of blogging your kids is the digital record of your kids life and your life as a parent. if the blogs are kept up for sixteen to twenty years you could end up having your entire life documented on the web. kids could look back at what what mom and dad were thinking when they were toddlers. or maybe this trend will be like the tech blog trend and tend to have a peak. Newly Discovered Works by Mexican Artist
NEW YORK (AP) — Some 140 drawings by the late Mexican folk artist Martin Ramirez, once destined for the trash, survived for more than two decades in a California garage and will be shown next year at the American Folk Art Museum.
The discovery of the works by the self-taught draftsman, who spent almost three decades in mental institutions, was astounding given that only 300 of his drawings and collages were known to exist until now, the museum said Monday.
The 144 works, drawn in the last three years of the artist’s life and in excellent condition, were stored in boxes atop a refrigerator in the Sacramento area garage of a woman whose father-in-law was medical director at a state hospital where Ramirez was a patient.
Last year a lady discovered a painting that her and a friend had treated to some abuse was a genuine Jackson Pollack. Now we’re discovering great works of art on top of refrigerators. I’m just not living right or something. I’d recognize a Pollack right away and the only thing on top of my fridge is dust.
