Genes and life events predict depression
GRANADA, Spain, Aug. 6 (UPI) — A group of Spanish scientists has identified a specific combination of genetic and environmental factors that lead to the onset of depression.
A single variation in a gene controlling the transport of the neurotransmitter serotonin, combined with exposure to threatening life events, led to clinical depression in their patient sample.
Other variations of the gene, combined with the same life events, did not lead to depression.
So a little bit of designer pharmacology is in order to get one’s serotonin transmission on track. Interesting that there is such an acute cause and effect between a neurotransmitter and life events.
Funny, sad, odd or all three, More bad news for Rudy Giuliani
The week is still young, but it’s already been a bad one for Rudy Giuliani. Monday’s big news was Slate outing his daughter Caroline as an Obama supporter. Ultimately more damaging, his former top anti-terror aide was quoted in the Sunday Telegraph saying Giuliani would make a “terrible president.”
So Caroline is much much smarter then her dad in other words.
