Curious creature caught off Keahole Point

The specimen was found caught in a filter in one of Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority’s deep-sea water pipelines last week. The pipeline, which runs 3,000 feet deep, sucks up cold, deep-sea water for the tenants of the natural energy lab.

“When we first saw it, I was really delighted because it was new and alive,” said Jan War, operations manager at NELHA. “I’ve never seen anything like that.”

The natural energy lab is a state agency that operates Hawaii Ocean Science and Technology Park in Kailua-Kona, adjacent to one of the steepest offshore slopes in the Hawaiian Islands.

No reason to cancel that surfing vacation they said it is only about a foot long. Then again the baby in the first Alien movie was kinda small. It may be some consolation if it attaches itself to your face scientists describe it as a pretty “ruby red”, so dress accordingly.

O’Reilly’s Baseless Attacks On The Netroots

The Fox newsman who has encouraged terrorists to target San Francisco is now claiming that DailyKos is “one of the worst examples of hatred America has to offer.”

O’Reilly went on to compare the YearlyKos blogger convention to “a David Duke convention” while calling DailyKos “hatemongerers” like “the Ku Klux Klan” and “the Nazi Party.”

A political pundit whose politics could be described as Benito Mussolini-Lite calling thousands of thoughtful patriotic Americans Nazis. Is manufacturing ridiculous points of view the reason he makes two million bucks a year or would he do it for free and the money is just a fringe benefit. O’Reilly’s Racist Slurs

* During an interview for Stuff magazine (11/02), O’Reilly opined that “the most unattractive women in the world are probably in the Muslim countries.” O’Reilly later insisted (New York Daily News, 10/10/02), “There was no malice intended. It was just in jest.”

* “Will African-Americans break away from the pack thinking and reject immorality–because that’s the reason the family’s breaking apart–alcohol, drugs, infidelity. You have to reject that, and it doesn’t seem–and I’m broadly speaking here, but a lot of African-Americans won’t reject it” (2/25/99).

and this O’Reilly And Beck Agree: We’re ‘Afraid’ To Have ‘A Lot Of African-American Friends’

Last night on Fox News, Bill O’Reilly led a discussion about Sen. Joe Biden’s (D-DE) racially-insensitive remarks toward Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL). But instead of exlusively focusing on why the remarks were condescending to African-Americans, he said blacks should “feel sorry for us white folks here, because I’m telling you now I’m afraid to say anything. … White Americans are terrified.”

I’ve read lots of papers on race and culture, race and economic issues, race and educational issues etc and it is possible to discuss these issues in a way that is less malicious and hateful. The Billster probably knows that, but the people that discuss those issues in a thoughtful intelligent way tend to make average incomes. Hate mongering makes money so  O’Reilly and dozens of other right-wing clones will continue  to perform their little clown shows because in their world money trumps morality.
