Solarization isn’t generally one of my favorite effects, but with the tint and layers this one turned out pretty well. A take on old fashioned glamour shots from the fifties and early sixties. The dial phone was a nice touch.

While we’re on photo effects i came across this tutorial for your photo editor today, Photo Reflection Effect
by Lesa Snider

With Apple’s release of iWeb — an amazing web site building tool — I’ve been getting a steady stream of emails wanting to know how to recreate the nifty photo reflection effect which appears at the top of iWeb pages and in the slide shows (here’s a sample). Adding such a reflection is a super easy way to add depth and a bit of sophistication to your photographs.

Today I will show you how to create a reflection of your very own in Photoshop, and we’ll do it in a manner that retains maximum flexibility within our document so you can plop your photo onto any color background you want.

The rest of the instructions at the jump with illustrations. I couldn’t get around to finishing my little project today, but I’ll put it up when I do.

Noah’s Ark Discovered … Again and Again

In this world there are things that seem on the verge of being discovered every so often, yet never quite materialize. The “Lost City” of Atlantis, for example, has been “found” at least a half dozen times. One researcher is pretty sure it is in Bolivia; another says it is Antarctica; a third claims that Bimini beachrock may be from the lost civilization.

So it is with Noah’s Ark.

The difference is, of course, that the implications of Noah’s Ark actually being found extend far beyond archaeology. The weight of all the paired animals in the world is nothing compared to the religious freight that the Ark carries.

The Ark story is scientifically implausible; there simply wouldn’t be enough space on the boat to accommodate two of every living animal (including dinosaurs), along with the food and water necessary to keep them alive. Furthermore, constructing a vessel of that scale would take hundreds of workers months to complete. Still, Biblical literalists—those who believe that proof of the Bible’s events remains to be found—have spent lives and fortunes trying to validate their beliefs.

There is nothing wrong with the story of Noah’s Ark parable, but it is stretching the limits of credulity to take it word for word. Besides the question of food and water can you imagine cleaning up the waste of two of every animal on earth for forty days and forty nights.
