marisa tomei’s foot tattoo

M’s Tomei’s tattoo is The Eye of Ra (Horus). Traditionally it represents royal power and the idea that the wearer will attain some kind of ever lasting life. That symbol of the eye on the back of the one dollar bill is actually a Mason-nized version of the Eye of Ra. The original even has some ancient meaning in the details of the curves and the lines themselves such as the center celebrating the sensation of light, while the curve to the lower right represents the sensation of touch. Then again its possible that she choose the Eye of Ra just because she found it attractive. Good choice either way as far as I’m concerned.

The Payphone Project is not just about some nostalgia for the days before cell phones. There have been consequences for society, some good and some not,

Abby Johnson describes how SBC/AT&T’s removal of unprofitable public phones in rural Nevada has created public safety concerns, stranding some with virtually no phone communications.

“The availability of a pay phone in each outpost community along the Loneliest Road is a matter of public safety and courtesy. It is what Nevada owes the tourists and travelers it is attracting to Nevada’s outback. Most city folk expect that their cell phones will work everywhere. Well, on Highway 50, it depends. And in many areas, even in towns, there is no coverage at all.”

It not just cell phone coverage its a matter of economics, some people just can’t afford a cell phone. The there’s cell phone batteries that run down or develop a short( this has happened to me so its not just a what-if). There is good news too,

“… as cell phones have given pay phones a run for their money, some in the industry are hoping for a comeback with new technologies, like Wi-Fi connections.

“About 40 pay phones recently launched at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas now also operate as Wi-Fi spots. Wal-Mart may be next in line. So anyone looking to download music or access the Internet from laptops while sitting in the parking lot there could find access points through these pay phones.”

This is a great development especially for people that use Skype or some similar service.

On reflection some of our best memories of movies are from the first few minutes, The Opening Shots Project
