learning to dance, basement biotech, Reed skirts blame for Laundering Scheme
July 18, 2006 at 8:17 am | In legal, news, progressive | No CommentsHow to build your own basement biotech
Don’t bet against basement biotech. The drug industry - with its decade-long development programs, billions in lost research expenditures, and declining new drug approval applications - is ripe for disruption by real entrepreneurs. Hey, they could hardly do worse than the incumbents.
I just snipped the last paragraph. Other then the usual tiresome slaps against the FDA it is a pretty good article about the potential for small biotech start-ups to literally start in the basement. One thought that passed through my mind was that we live in an age where everything but toothpaste has been described as a WMD. If you can sequence genes in the garage you can also culture some pretty nasty stuff too. I wonder how all these portable labs will be regulated. I remember in genetics lab we had to handle and depose of common e. coli cultures the same way you would any bio-hazard. Anyway back to that snip and big pharma; I think where the big pharmaceutical companies have gone wrong is to concentrate on developing drugs that return the most profit. Yes they need profit making drugs, but they also need something like a brain storming research team that works on innovative products and solutions to problems that may not be big on the profit radar. Obviously if they don’t do it, small entrepreneurs will. That is the thing about big corporations they eventually become top heavy, they pander to short term solutions, and talk more about innovating then actually being innovative.
Maturity is often overated as a quality, yet there will inevitably be times that require one to stand up and take responsibility for one’s action. It is very unbecoming for an adult to be caught red handed and then swear they didn’t do it, Reed Blames Tribes for Laundering Scheme
Quick reality check: It has been long-established that Abramoff’s casino-owning tribal clients hired Reed to whip up religious anti-gambling fervor and use it to squash any neighboring competition. In order to obscure the fact that Abramoff’s casino money was funding Reed’s anti-gambling campaigns, the money was funneled through various entities (shell companies and non-profits) before making its way to Reed.
McCain’s Senate investigation found that the funneling had been Reed’s idea, because that is what the tribal representatives told investigators.
If Reed lived in the world of us mortal working class Americans he’d be in jail now rather then pretending he was just hatched out of an egg yesterday and has no idea what influence peddling and money laundering is.
