Are space elevators and hydrogen the stairway to new energy

I'm a little tired of the term thinking outside the box. If for no other reason that people with tired and mediocre ideas have embraced it to wrap their tired and mediocre ideas in. Yet there are some ideas, concepts out there about energy and technology that today may seem fringe, but within those fringe ideas may be a few of the ideas that save the human race collective ass. Found this over at one of the diaries at Daily Kos and it manages to touch on many of the issues facing America and the world; including hydrogen power, rechargable power cells, and extracting materials from space. Ths is far from the last word, but to end in another cliche, its food for thought,   Stairway to Heaven: Space Elevators, Platinum, and the Hydrogen Economy.

Just a note on the desk top art. I blued a stock photo of a transmission tower, put a solid red layer at the bottom, and used a True Type font called Acoustic Bass.
